These are the terms for using Kindr LA — our text line, website, and reporting tools. By texting our HELP line or using our website, you agree to these terms.

If you’re in immediate danger

Kindr LA is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911. Our text line connects you with information and resources — it is not monitored 24/7 by emergency responders and should not be used to report an emergency in progress.

What Kindr LA is

Kindr LA (operated by Author on Location LLC) is a free service connecting Los Angeles residents with help — for homelessness, animal welfare, safety hazards like fire hydrants, and neighborhood blight. We do this by text message, our website, and by routing reports to relevant city systems and partners.

The service is free

Kindr LA does not charge for this service, run ads, or sell your information. Standard message and data rates from your phone carrier may still apply to text messages.

What we ask of you

  • Use Kindr LA honestly — don’t submit false reports or impersonate someone else.
  • Treat this as a resource-connection tool, not a substitute for emergency services or professional medical, legal, or veterinary advice.

What we don’t guarantee

We do our best to connect you with accurate, current information and route reports to the right place, but we can’t guarantee availability, response time, or outcomes from any resource, agency, or partner we connect you with. Kindr LA is not responsible for the actions (or inaction) of third parties, including city agencies and partner organizations.

Changes to the service or these terms

We may update these terms or change how Kindr LA works over time. If we make significant changes, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Kindr LA after changes means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California.
